Adaptive Designer is a collection
of tools to enable customization of Adaptive’s products according
to the specific needs of an organization. Using these tools, it is
possible to further expose the comprehensive reference model provided
as part of Adaptive’s products, or the classes, attributes and
relationships held in metamodel extensions introduced by an organization.
Key features of Adaptive Designer are:
- Model Driven Architecture: code is generated directly from Adaptive
models.
- Automatic generation of JSPs and XSL stylesheets.
- The use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open standard for
representing diagrams using XML. This allows high quality diagrams,
showing complex relationships, to be interactively viewed and interacted
with.
- Adaptive Designer communicates with the Server using a web services
interface, making use of Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and
with interfaces defined in the standard Web Services Definition
Language (WSDL).
- Access possible from a wide variety of tools and languages including
Visual Basic, Java and Microsoft® Excel.
- Extend the scope of the product to include new asset types based
on the information of importance to your organization.
- Add new or alternative views, to control what and how information
is navigated and displayed in the web browser.
- Generate new web forms to enable capture and maintenance of information
in the repository.
- Use Microsoft® Visio to model and generate Java based operations
that control the flow of processes that support alternative roles
played by users of the Adaptive product.
Designer comes in two packages, one geared towards the
administrator user and the other to be operated by an experienced
programmer.
Designer “Lite”: Views
Manager
- Creates Views, Item Types, Reports.
- Allows extension of the metamodel.
- The prerequisite to be able to use Views Manager is to understand
metamodels, but it does not require programmer expertise.
Designer “Pro”: Process
Manager
- Includes all functionality contained in Designer Lite, plus
- Allows for capabilities to be modified through data-driven functionality
such as metamodel extensions, views, classification schemes, item
types, processes, roles, reports, queries and workflows.
